Artist Statement
How can I use objects to reveal and represent aspects of myself? I choose this question because it allows for me to not always use myself within a piece and lets me determine how or what object can represent me. My sustained investigation shows evidence of practice because one of the first pieces of color pencil and my last color pencil drawing show significant improvement from one another. There are aspects of experimentation in my composition and the ways I’m incorporating my elements. There is revision guided by inquiry in the pieces by using my world works to push the limits of where I want to take my art. I don’t want my art to look the same and be a duplication of works I already have. During the critique I realized that my switch was taking on different forms throughout my artwork. My switch changing from the original where the joycons can come off to my solo switch that isn’t easily multiplayer friendly shows my love for gaming, but it also represents the part of me that can problem solve and get things done alone. While my original switch is a representation of community, I still lean in with others to get things done and problem solve. The skull represents my love for anime and my style and the mushroom a representation of story telling through a gaming lens.
